This Equal Pay Public Service Announcement, or PSA, was created in 1972 and styled after the episodes of the Batman TV series. Burt Ward and Yvonne Craig reprised their roles Robin and Batgirl, respectively. However, Dick Gautier assumed the role of Batman in the PSA because Adam West was, at the time, trying to distance himself from the role. It was narrated by William Dozier.
In the full 60-second clip, Batman and Robin have been tied up in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Gotham City, with a ticking time bomb set to go off at any second. Suddenly, Batgirl crashes through a window and lands near the bound Dynamic Duo. Batman asks Batgirl to "untie [them] before it's too late." Batgirl responds "It's already too late" in that she is not being paid an equal wage to her partners in crime-fighting, receiving even less than Robin in pay. Batman pleads that there's no time for jokes, to which Batgirl responds, "It's no joke; it's the Federal Equal Pay Law", which had been enacted in 1963. As Batgirl approaches the bomb and debates as to whether or not she should deactivate it before Batman agrees to her pay equity demand, the Narrator's voice-over compels viewers to "Tune in tomorrow, or contact the Wage and Hour Division, listed in your phone book, under the U.S. Department of Labor."
A truncated 30-second version of the PSA was also aired at the time, with Batgirl's voice-over instead of the Narrator's giving similar contact info at the end.
